The Farmhouse Lodge is part of Granite Ridge Wildlife Reserve and is situated 48 Kilometres South of Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage site and on the boundary of the Rhodes Matopos National Park. Visitors are offered accommodation and a variety of activities to make the most of their stay in the Matopos.

The lodge is situated below one of the majestic granite kopjies which have made the Matopos a famous and popular destination for both tourists and locals. Activities like abseiling will enthuse the more adventurous, whilst a leisurely sunset game drive lets you relax and soak up the breathtaking scenery.

Accommodation

Guests are accommodated in 12 thatched, Cape Dutch style cottages, which are built on the fringe of a majestic granite outcrop. Each individual cottage has a twin bed, en-suite shower, toilet and hand basin, open plan lounge with tea/coffee facilities and fridge.

 

The private property has recently undergone a re development program which included the introduction of additional Wildlife species. The Reserve now offers an upgraded Farmhouse Lodge, World View Campsite and a new range of activities. Activities like Abseiling will enthuse the more adventurous, whilst a leisurely Sunset Game Drive gets you to relax and soak up the scenery.

Activities

Horse Safari
Start your day with a morning Horse Safari. Wind your way past the giant granite boulders and through the open grasslands of the wildlife reserve. On horseback, led by an experienced Groom, there is a good chance to get up close to some of the wildlife. Guests need not be experienced riders.

Bush Walks
Follow the wildlife trails with one of our professional guides, for an informative walk through the african bush. Visit either the Bushman cave paintings, Bantu grain bins or Iron age iron smelter. Track the wild animals to try and approach on foot.

Abseiling
Under the guidance of a qualified instructor, ex British Royal Marine Commando Alistair Burton will teach you the ropes of descending the rock faces of the Matopos. Fear is not your only obstacle!

Game Drives
Conducted in open Safari vehicles, take a leisurely drive in search of the game living on the Wildlife reserve. As dawn breaks, capture some wildlife photos with a sunrise back drop and return for a hearty breakfast. The sunset drive leaves late in the afternoon to view the animals coming to the waterholes for the last drink of the day. Finnish with your sundowner drinks, snacks and a short night drive home

Mabazvi Climb
Your own activity, where you can climb the rocky outcrop behind the Farmhouse Lodge. When reaching the top, you are greeted by spectacular views of the National Park.

Mountain Bikes
Ride the challenging dirt trails and rocky paths to get your exercise for the day.

Game Drive with Rhino walk
This popular trip takes you into the Game park section of the Matopos National park. Game viewing in open safari vehicles, whilst looking for fresh Rhino tracks. Follow the spoor with a chance to approach the Rhino on foot.

Bushman Cave paintings and Black Eagles nest
Hike the large Granite dome of Bambata, to view one of the National parks famous Bushman cave sites. This large cave, moulded into the rock, has a display of centuries old rock art that depicts the life of the Bushman hunter, gatherers of that time. Climb further to overlook an occupied Black eagles nest, built precariously on the side of a cliff face. The Matopos is renown for its concentration of Black eagles often seen soaring above in search of their main food source, the Rock Hyrax.
