Gorges lodge is built right on the edge of the Batoka Gorge, some 250 breathtaking metres above the mighty Zambezi.

The lodge
The main lodge area and the ten stone under thatch chalets are set in a magnificent and lush indigenous garden with stunning views across the gorge and of the pounding Zambezi River 250 metres below – truly breathtaking!

Gorges Lodge is home to an incredible population of raptors, as well as a stunning array of butterflies and wild flora. You can look on in amazement, as black eagles and lanner falcons soar overhead. Several tame bushbuck, baboon and vervet monkey also roam the grounds, in the hope of finding a treat.

Our team are all from the area’s community and love nothing more than to immerse you in their world-famous African hospitality. The chef uses only locally sourced and seasonal ingredients to create our daily menus. We handpick our collection of South African wines from only a select few producers and serve a range of premium spirits. We focus on quality, consistency and flexibility, so whatever you need don’t hesitate in letting us know.
Gorges comprises of ten beautiful stone and thatch cottages, dotted along the Gorges edge, in front of our luscious landscaped gardens. Each individual en-suite cabin is finished beautifully and boasts a private garden and decked veranda: the ideal place to watch the sunrise – or set – over the Zambezi.
The lodge is only a 20-minute drive to the lively town of Victoria Falls and our private shuttle service runs several times every day.

Some people come to Gorges Lodge to do nothing more than relax on our decks and viewing stations, absorbing the incredible views whilst enjoying our yummy homemade cuisine and delicious African wines. Others choose to swim, read a book and wander round our pristine gardens; soaking up some of the most remarkable scenes in all of Southern Africa. And almost everyone who comes to Gorges finds the time to explore its incredible surroundings; being only a stone’s throw from one of the worlds Seven Wonders – Victoria Falls.
Please note that for safety reasons we do not permit children under the age of seven. Except by special arrangement.
Community & Conservation Program
Gorges Lodge is part of Zimbabwe’s CAMPFIRE initiative. This natural resource management project looks at local community involvement in tourism and wildlife conservation. The philosophy underlying the project is quite a simple one: the people living within the natural resources are best placed to manage them. And for doing so, they should benefit directly.

At Imvelo, we have worked hard to protect the natural areas around us. This includes hands-on involvement with the local communities, and protecting and preserving the surrounding fauna and flora.

We offer our guests an honest ecotourism experience; we have purposely built each of our lodges on land that belongs to local village communities. This enables us to develop from the grassroots up and employ locals from the surrounding areas. More than 90% of our staff, some 100 or so individuals, are from the rural areas surrounding our lodges.

Imvelo works very closely with village leaders and provide assistance in distributing resources to where they are needed the most. Our aim is to empower indigenous populations and teach them self-sustaining methods of survival and in so doing we encourage them to link the benefits from tourism to wildlife conservation. Our assistance includes installing domestic water supplies, constructing schools, and providing health care. We’d love to show you the progress that’s being made: our unchoreographed village visits give you an opportunity to see real village life as well as some of the programs with which we are involved.
