Kanga Camp Tented Camp

Beautiful Kanga Camp is set away from the crowds in a remote part of the legendary Mana pools where a private safari experience is the focus, and tracking wildlife on foot is a specialty.

The exclusive seasonal camp is built around a water hole, which acts as the main attraction for wildlife in the area as it is the only source of permanent water in the location.

The Camp

Set in the most remote part of the World Heritage Site in Mana Pools is the Kanga Pan, not too far from Chitake Springs. The 12-bedded tented camp has en-suite bathroom facilities with outdoor showers and basins overlooking the water hole. One of the tents is a family tent with its own private dining and seating area. The main area has a comfortable lounge and dining area offering you uninterrupted views of a very active water hole. Relax in the upper deck lounge under the shade of a mahogany or sit on the deck below near the splash pool and enjoy Kanga − the old Africa in a new era.

The diverse area has multiple vlei lines, river systems of the Ruckomechi River, and mixed woodland types from Mopane woodland to Jesse bush and riverine forests. Kanga Pan itself is the only known water source in the area available throughout the year, making it a hub for wildlife and a delight to explore on foot. Pristine and undeveloped, this area gives you a pure, unspoilt, private African safari experience.

Besides game drives, bird watching and walking excursions, an hour’s drive brings you to the Zambezi flood plains in Mana Pools for canoeing and fishing excursions. Long-term stays can also be booked at Chitake Springs through special prior arrangements. Kanga works well in collaboration with Zambezi Life Styles to provide guests with an overall view of the inland and riverside experiences available in Mana Pools, one of the last remaining “untouched” wilderness paradises.

6 luxurious tents accommodating 12 people are comfortably furnished in a large walk-in Meru style, with en-suite bathroom facilities, classic out-door bucket showers with flushing toilets and private verandas over-looking the water hole.

Carbon Footprint
Lighting in the tents is provided by rechargeable units, backed up with beautiful, crafted silver kerosene lanterns. We have adopted recycled glasswares for our dining usage.
All plastics and other non biodegradable materials are transported out and taken to the official disposal dump near Kariba.
We have converted to gas for our refrigeration and kitchen / cooking needs, thus reducing the use of generator and fuels.
Showers are the stylish, old fashioned and traditional safari showers at the moment and we are looking at a conversion to solar for the hot water.
We place a lot of emphasis on low impact walking, low disturbance activities on foot as the area really lends itself to this, we are very careful in the planning of new roads and the present road network with special cognizance paid to drainage areas and drainage patterns, erosion etc.

Kanga Camp is operational from 1st April – 15th November.
